You'd have thought it was Christmas the way these kids were looking forward to St. Patrick's Day! Garrett came running in my room in the morning saying, "they really did mom! they really did! the Leprechauns were here!"

those tricky creatures walked on our mirrors, turned our toilet water green...

turned our pictures crooked ....

messed with our chairs, some were upside down and some were upstairs...

and they must have been playing kickball or soccer with our balloons...
It was really cute when they started picking out every little thing out of place and suggesting that it must have been the leprechauns.
but for all that trouble thank goodness they left a good surprise too!

arrows of magic dust lead the way

We celebrated by wearing a bunch of green of course, we read some leprechaun books, played green bingo, and (the night before) we watched 'Darby O'Gill and the Little People'.
(LOVE! he he)
We had a green dinner of grapes, cucumbers, kiwi's and then meat and cheese quessdilla's dipped in green ranch(not really irish) we had cream soda in green glasses. --to which I might wonder why I went to so much work, my kids were nervous about the green ranch, said they didn't like the quesadillas, cucumbers, or cream soda... sigh! go figure--

then we had green dessert Pistacho pudding with grahm cracker
-Embrie and Brad didn't like that either-

Why go all out for St. Patrick's day? Callahan is an Irish name after all!
ha ha just for fun. Its actually a holiday that I don't quite understand. I know that it is for St. Patrick who helped the cause of Christianity in Ireland and 'chased out Paeganism' so to speak. And that the shamrock symbolizes the Holy Trinity. However I am not sure where all the rest comes into that. But we had fun with it and I think we'll continue to do so but I may not go to so much effort with the food next time . . .
